Ipod Skin Design

In Design Art 7, one of the projects we had to do was an ipod skin design. To make the ipod skin, we had to first brainstorm ideas. We had to have at least one idea in four different categories: Elements of Nature (Water, Fire etc.), Pollution/Garbage, Animal, Your Own Design. Then, we had to put the four designs on smaller versions of the large ipod. After that, we chose our favourite design. I chose My Own Design for my large ipod. Then, we had to make a poster for our design. The poster had to include a slogan related to the design AND ipod/music. I learnt to have a better sense of unity because at first, my design's screensaver was not united with the other parts of the design. But then I added color to the screensaver.

During this assignment, I felt stressed because it was kind of hard thinking of original designs. I think it increased my observation: I now know that colour can unite many things. I further developed my ideas like thinking outside the box.

Tesselation

To create the Tesselation design, we had to fold a square pice of paper in half, lengthwise or diagonally. Then we had to draw a design in black and white on one side using straight lines and curved lines. After that, we placed our design on a light-box and traced the design on the other side. We then traced the full tile at least 6 times. Afterwards, we colored in parts of each tile in exactly the same way. Then we took a large piece of colored paper and stuck the tiles next to each other. In doing this project, I learned how to create an image that is simple but effective at the same time. Also, I improved my sense of unity because in the tesselation, every pannel has to be exactly the same.

During this assignment, I felt relaxed because the design ideas were quite simple but it git annoying when we had to trace the tiles over and over again. I do not think that I was a problem solver at any level. This is because there were not any problems when I was working on the Tesselation Project. I was satisfied with the final result: An effective Tesselation.

Line Design

To create my line design, first, I made a panel by drawing various thicknesses, lengths and types of lines but using only straight lines and the panel could only be in black and white. These lines could go in any direction. This is seen on the left most panel in my artwork.

After making the first panel with straight lines, we moved onto another panel doing the same as the first panel although we could only use curved lines. This is shown on the panel on the right.

The final panel was made using cut out pieces of paper. In this panel, we were allowed to use color and use both straight and curved lines. This is shown in the middle panel.

In doing this project, I learnt how to create a feeling of unity, balance and to have an emphasis.

I felt quite relaxed during this project because it didn't take too much organization or effort. I increased my observation by having to tell if there is the elements of H.U.R.B.E.. I was satisfied with my final result and I think there is unity, balance and emphasis. I learned how to use lines to create a design that is intersting to look at.
